- Rating:

- Review: I've never read Anne Rice works, but I do know Phantom. I also know something else--I didn't like these three stories from Soper-Cook.
The first two, "Andante, Allegro, Legato," and "Angel of Darkness" are a package in which Erik meets up with the vampires Louis and Lestat. The writing level was tolerable (save for an excess of "my darling"s), but I could not distinguish between the vampires as characters and I was appalled by the utter absence of plot. A more fitting title for these two works would have been, "Erik's Erotic Adventures with Two Supposedly Gorgeous Undead Men." Maybe I'm a prude, but I don't want the details of Erik's romps in bed (and if that wish is denied me, I'd at least like to see the guy in a truly loving embrace, not some lust-game.)
"Divertimento" has the same problem as the other tales--an obsession with sex. Erik replaces the lost Christine in his life with a boy vampire. The story (such as there is) escapes then, leaving the reader with another sordid excuse for heavy breathing and graphic details.

- Review: Nicola's short story is a charming piece of fanfic that fills in a segment of the Final Lair episode of Phantom. At times a bit too reminiscent of Kay, her story nonetheless masters Leroux's elliptical speech for Erik and proves a tantalizing read. Look for more to come on Nicola's site.
- SHADOWS IN THE SPOTLIGHT, a novel by Karin Willison.
