I received what was probably the same letter from RUG and also from RUC. I loved the one from RUC because it was signed, "Assistant to the Lord Lloyd-Webber." Yes, I know that's his title now. But, *the* lord? Sounds biblical. Anyway, the exact statement was, "As far as I know there is no truth to the rumor that John Travolta will be cast in the role of Eric." Do I believe this? Of course. But then, I still believe in leprachauns and always will. Sorry if I sound sarcastic, but I just wish they'd tell us the truth. So, I agree with you, Jane, when you say that we should continue to write and e-mail. At the very least, we're showing support for Michael, and that HAS to make him feel good. I was in 7th grade at the time and was just beginning to fall in love with theatre. I then saw POTO that summer in Chicago and I was hooked. Since then I have become a "Phantom Freak." I read every book I could find on POTO and Michael. I searched the net fo information on POTO, ALW, and MC. however, I have never seen a page devoted to MC until now. I don't know about Mr. Crawford but I sure wouldn't want a bunch of people who don't even know me talking about how they want to go to bed with me! It's just not right. Michael's the best and everyone knows it! Not because he has the best body either. I'm not saying he doesn't have a nice body but all of you are talking about it as if you know him personally. Maybe Mr. Crawford doesn't like everybody talking about him like that. He's a grown man and he has his own life that none of you have anything to do with. Anyway, I think he's a great guy and I'd like to learn a lot more about him since I'm trying to become an actress myself. But anyhow, I'd like to compliment Krista on such a great webpage. I thought you were going to ask them about the POTO movie. I guess I missunderstood you. Atlantic Records has a web-site, but they do not have an email address, they do have a chat room and mailing list if you are interested. Also their snail mail address is on the back of the albums. Yours Carolyn :) CW <vegas-cc@worldnet.att.net> Las Vegas, NV USA - Monday, June 23, 1997 at 19:48:48 (EDT) In a post down below, I said I was trying to get Atlantic Records’ e-mail address to “ask about the rumor that Michael has a contract with them for more albums.” I would like to make something clear. This is not “PRIVILEGED” information. It is PR information that goes out in press kits. I have thrown out TONS of such releases which I received when I was writing a weekly newspaper column about the entertainment industry. Since it usually takes a couple of months to get back on their mailing list, an e-mail might just possibly bring faster news. Whatever, it may not be possible to get the information. In that case, we will just have to wait until Atlantic sends out CDs to every radio station in the country before we find out. Can you bear to wait? Another point was that perhaps we should all be contacting Atlantic Records (not their press release department) on Michael’s behalf. Atlantic Records is not owned by Warner Bros. But they are both owned by Time-Warner, and while they are separate companies, they are both part of the same conglomerate. Such companies share a mutual interest in how to increase the bottom line. As for hurting Michael, in the entire history of recording, no recording artist ever lost a contract because his fans wrote asking for more of his albums. About the Travolta rumor, WB still has to give the role to SOMEONE, so it would make sense to me that Michael’s fans POLITELY let WB know they would like Michael to get the part before they give it to someone else. Anyway, that’s my opinion. However, that’s what Krista’s site is all about--opinions. We all have them. It’s fun sharing them. Carolyn, thank you for your response and the vastly interesting information it contained. I was fascinated to learn (after all the rumors about Travolta announcing on television that he had been offered the role) that you have seen several interviews with him and nothing was said about the movie role. Love and peace to all Michael Crawford fans Ceeeceee Ceeeceee <Ceeeceee@earthlink.net> NY USA - Monday, June 23, 1997 at 18:14:21 (EDT) To all Michael fans and especially to Dee Hughes whose message is down below. I love him!! Katie Katie Ellison <Rusty934@aol.com> Warren, MI USA - Monday, June 23, 1997 at 14:30:02 (EDT) Hello Everyone, Atlantic Reocrds is part of Time Warner Company. I do not htink they are owned by Warner Bros. Even if they were they would not know anything that Warner Movies has going. These are individual companies. As far as writing them about Michael's record deal. If it is priveleged information they cannot tell you. I would leave this alone. I do know he is working on two more recordings (one a Christmas album) this Michael has said himself. I think that I would leave this JT thing alone now. The movie is not going anywhere at this time. It is still in the planning stages. I would wait until after the POTO 10th anniversary (where they may make an announcement). Since RUG and Playbill online has said it was a story put out my a gossip columnist I would wait and see. I hae see several interviews with JT and have heard nothing about a POTO movie deal. I have firends in the idustry that think it is a horrible idea too and are very upset. So don't feel alone. I still say write Michael and let him know how you feel aobut him being the Phantom and then if he wants ammunition he has all his fan letters to show people. I would rather see Michael back on stage doing what he does best anyway. Maybe another US tour. Write him and tell him you would like that. As for the record deal I do not remember Michael saying how many albums he had in the deal at that time. If it was common knowledge then he would have announced it then. Jennifer Jennifer <drma4fun@Sprynet.com> Huntington Bch., CA USA - Sunday, June 22, 1997 at 01:36:50 (EDT) To Jennifer in California and all you other MC fans: You are right, Warner Bros. does own Atlantic Records. And though we do seem to be awash in irony here by asking WB to give the Phantom movie role to Michael, I wouldn't worry about Atlantic Records giving him any grief about it. You've brought up a really interesting idea here. If Michael becomes the movie Phantom, just think of what it would do for the sale of his albums. His name would be as big in this country as any Hollywood movie star. Sales would skyrocket. I'm glad you brought this whole thing up. I've been trying to get Atlantic's e-mail address to ask about the rumor that Michael has a contract with them for more albums. So far, no luck on the address. But, thanks to you, maybe we should try to get the address and e-mail or snailmail Atlantic and politely suggesting that they might use their influence with WB in order to boost their own sales. Not that they haven't already thought of that, but a little nudging wouldn't hurt. Jennifer <drma4fun@Sprynet.com> Huntington Bch., CA USA - Saturday, June 21, 1997 at 02:26:08 (EDT) FYI Michael has done six albums...two were on the Telstar label ("Sonsg From Stage and Scree" and "With Love"), one is listed as Quality Records, "The Phantom Unmasked" but I could swear that Michael had said at the luncheon that this was from his new record label Atlantic. Maybe it was that he had just signed with Atlantic at the luncheon. Anyway the other three with Atlantic (that is for sure) are "MC performs Andrew Lloyd Webber", A Touch of Music in the Night" and "EFX." I have all three albums. I only have one autographed not...I gave the "Phantom Unmasked" away to charity. Anyway, yes Michael had said he had two projects underway and a cartoon. Hopefully we will see them soon. Thanks for the fine job you're doing in keeping us informed. I've not had the luxury of seeing Michael perform as Erik, but if I close my eyes when listing to the soundtrack I can only imagine how absolutely marvelous it must have been. Love to all, Caroline Caroline <coburncc@centum.utulsa.edu> Bixby, Ok USA - Friday, June 20, 1997 at 00:43:42 (EDT) Caroline - I love your thoughtful and intelligent posts. You ask what the rest of us think about the latest P.R. flummery and rumors. I can't answer for anyone else, but what I think is that I would LOVE to see Michael as the movie Phantom. At least, I would get to see him. The only other way that could happen is if he came to New York, and then I would WALK the 440 miles to see him on stage. I agree with you that MC must have other plans going because that's something every entertainer must do. As for the rumors about doing the 3rd out of 7 albums for Atlantic, the numbers don't add up because he's already done 4. BUT, if he only does a couple (including the Christmas album), I will be thrilled. At least, for a month or two, then the craving starts again! Hey, what is this about doing private concerts for Ford dealers. I have a Ford. It's eight years old. He is most likely in amazement at Michael's insta-fame from POTO. He is probably also a bit jealous as most men would be ya know?! I think he was just trying to make a joke or be sarcastic. No big deal! I'd love to get a copy of the article! And, what's this about John Travolta not being cast? If it's true, Yeeeehaaawwww! Maybe people will finally come to their senses. I would still love to see Michael in the role, but he's probably not counting on it and making other plans like he's always done in the past. What does everyone else think about this latest one? Love to everyone, Caroline Caroline <coburncc@centum.utulsa.edu> Bixby, Ok USA - Thursday, June 19, 1997 at 14:10:41 (EDT) I will post this here since the message board is still down. BTW Krista, thanks for your vigilance. We admire you! I just read the ALW article in USA Today that briefly mentions MC. I quote:"The musical brought star Michael Crawford cult status". I did not know that several hit records, songs being played on a lot of radio stations across the world and an international following relegated someone to the ranks of a "cult" hit. It almost sounds like the writer doesn't like MC, so he passes off his popularity as being some kind of passing thing. Too bad. First of all, I'm very glad to see so many supporters of Michael Crawford, whom I believe is one of the best singers in the world. Not only that, he also has the charisma that is unrival by any others. I hope this John Travolta debacle ends soon and that those filth mongers at Hollywood has changed their minds. Anyone who has seen those John Travolta movies know how horrible they are. So the question I must ask is this, how can those morons at Hollywood think Travolta can do justice to the role of the Phantom??? Well, in case Travolta really do get the role, I hope all of you loyal Crawford fans out there will exercise your power of BOYCOTT!!! MICHAEL CRAWFORD RULES!!! Calvin <cluu@hawaii.edu> USA - Tuesday, June 17, 1997 at 17:39:44 (EDT) WOW!!!! I'm not the only Michael Crawford Phan! I was starting to think that I was. One bad thing about being in Canada is that MC NEVER COMES HERE!!!! DARN!!! He was in Canada once, but he was in Toronto, and I don't live anywhere near Toronto. Also, two of my uncles were in Las Vegas ONE WEEK BEFORE EFX OPENED!!! They were in the same city as MC!!! At least they got me a picture of the sign. Needless to say, I cried when I found out. Ceeeceee Ceeeceee <Ceeeceee@earthlink.net> USA - Sunday, June 15, 1997 at 19:10:58 (EDT) This is in response to those who feel we should forget about the POTO movie. While I respect your right to do just that, I know there are many out there that feel as I do. I want very much to see Michael in that role. Michael was asked to do it a few years ago, he was excited about doing it, and until he says that has changed, I will believe he still does. There is nothing wrong with writing respectful letters for a cause we believe in. Isn't that called democracy? I have been told the address for RUC is 22 Tower Street, London WC2H9SN, England May we all "speak our truth", and may there be those who will listen. Perhaps a little more ih, not ee. It doesn't sound like meee" to me when he sings it. Hope I could help. LONG LIVE MICHAEL!! And now, can anyone tell me why Michael pronounces the word, "mystery," as "meeestery," when he sings, "The Phantom of the Opera"? I'm sure there is a good reason because his enunciation is always perfect. Am I the only one who wonders about this? I think that at this time it is more important to support Michael and not worry about the POTO movie. Here in Las Vegas our oldies radio station plays Michaels albums and last night they played "You'll Never Walk Alone" I think that should be MC fans support song for Michael. No matter what happens or what he does in the future. Since RUg has stated they no nothing of JT being offered the part I think you should send letters to MC and tell him how you support him in anything he does. BTW RUG in NYC is not the appropriate place. They have moved and they do not handle the movie part of the corporatin, which is really handled by The Really Useful Corporation. After all we changed the mind of NBC and the U.S. Government (the first space shuttle) with letters. Please everyone who reads this write to Warner Bros and RUG and tell them politely just how you feel about having John Travolta in the Phantom movie instead of Michael Crawford. Krista, is it just me or did this thing lose all of its signatures between about March 8th and today? Maybe it's just me. Anyway, I'll sign in again. I'm a young performer and adore the gorgeous, talented, and gentlest and sweetest souls of all men--Michael Crawford! Please, all Michael fans! The theatre world knows and remembers the great talents of Michael Crawford and his original phantom. That is important enough and is enough for Michael. God-willing he will do the movie, but probably is resigned to move on and is tired of waiting around. They've been toying with this idea for years. Let them make this movie with whoever. Crawford was in the original equation which produced the original successful formula. Take Crawford out of the equation and you have no formula. Let them make it. It's their loss, not Michael's. Although there is a lot of great talent out there, none will ever compare to Michael and most of us realize that. Love everyone and would welcome your comments! Let's all continue praying for Michael's recovering sweet hip and his daughters and new grandbaby. That's all that really matters to him right now anyway! Love, Caroline Caroline Coburn <coburncc@centum.utulsa.edu> Bixby, Ok USA - Sunday, June 01, 1997 at 15:12:22 (EDT) I just read with growing distress that John Travolta has been offered the role of Erik in the pending ALW POTO movie. I have already emailed WB. I will email RUG next and also snail mail them both. How can this be happening? Has ALW taken leave of his senses? Michael IS Erik, no one else could ever fill this role.
