Fatal Attraction
by Raphaela
I was hooked by the voice.
The Voice.
It was a noose around my neck,
But it was the rope that was guilty
Not I.
It drew me in at first
With a sense of dancing, of spinning.
I heard its whisper,
Its pleading cry,
Then the burst of emotion....
The noose around my neck grew tighter.
I heard the Voice, a dew-covered rose
In mid-summers light...
I saw the gallows above my head.
I stood above the trap-door.
I heard the Voice,
AS IT REALLY WAS.
Who is this man?
Who dares to hang my spirit
With braided rope?
The door was cut loose, and I fell.
The falling was the feeling:
The ecstasy, the terror,
All of which he tied to my mind
With the Voice.
It stopped so suddenly;
A jerk, and I was limp.
Breathing was difficult; moving, impassable.
The rope was tight, grew tighter
Until it was a part of me.
The Voice was a part of me.
I shall lie in its woven arms forever.
