The Extent to Which a Michael Fan Will Go...
by Anonymous.
During the LA run of Phantom with Michael, tickets were scarce as hens eggs,
especially in the very front of the theatre. There was this fan who did
anything to get tickets to the show. The LA Times had many, many ads each
day with people wanting to sell tickets and a lot of them were very good and
very expensive. This story took place in 1990 when the fan, like most of us,
had become obsessed with Michael as the Phantom. It was almost a necessity
to see Phantom as many times as possible, but getting tickets was the
problem.
She lived in LA and answered many of the ads. She went to houses,
apartments, etc. all over the larger area of LA. Little did she think of
what COULD have happened to her as she usually went alone and had quite a bit
of money with her, as these type of tickets were usually not cheap.
One evening after making contact for two tickets by telephone, she made
arrangements to get them per instructions from the seller. She was told to
meet her "contact" in front of a certain donut shop at 10:00 PM. (This
sounds like a drug contact, doesn't it?) She was to pick up two tickets for
Phantom in the Orchestra, second row. She got in her car and drove out to the
appointed place in the San Fernando Valley. She was alone and had about $750
in cash with her. Realizing that this might be dangerous, she was packing a
loaded 9mm semi-automatic Glock with a bullet in the chamber. This was stuck
in her back waistband. She was quite apprensive about this so-called
"connection" but went anyway. She felt she was properly prepared for
anything.
After waiting a few anxious minutes on the deserted street in front of the
donut shop, a little after 10:00 in front of the, an average looking male
showed up and offered her the 2 tickets. Without delay she paid for them and
jumped in her car and sped off.
She and her friend truly enjoyed Phantom from Orchestra Row CC!! It seems as if the luck of the Irish was with her! What a we do for Michael!
