Twas the Best Present Ever
by Debra B.
Adapted from Clement Clarle Moore's 'Twas The Night Before Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas
and all through her house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
Her stocking was hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that the Phantom would soon be there.
Christine was all nestled, so snug in her bed
while romantic visions danced in her head,
and Christine in her scarf and bright red cap,
She'd settled herself for a long night's nap.
When down in the basement there rose such a clatter!
She sprang from the bed to see what was the matter!
Away to the basement, down I flew like a flash.
Peeked through the door, didn't do something rash.
The moon through the landing window gave such a glow.
A black shadow down in the depths below.
When what to her wondering eyes did appear.
A large dark presence that seemed to draw near.
She knew in a moment, it must be Erik.
She saw him and hid by the large door frame.
He walked close by her whispering her name.
As she watched and was turning around.
Up that last step he came with a bound.
His cape was dark black
and filled the staircase.
His eyes showed a sad lonely soul.
A white mask covered his face.
He was tall and so thin
a right ominous presence,
and she shuddered when she saw him,
he filled her whole escence.
A look in his eyes
and a twist of his head.
She knew he had love in his heart,
she had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word,
but she did hear him sing.
He put in her stocking
a precious diamond ring,
and quick as he came
he disappeared from sight.
She knew her answer would be yes
and this time everything would turn out right.
