Amanda's Quest to Meet MichaelSubmitted by Amanda OK, dateline March 19, 1995. I am almost jumping out
of my skin with the excitement of being one of the first people to
see EFX (I saw it before it officially opened) It has been my dream
for as long as I've known him to see him in person, so on March 17,
1995 we made the long trip from Ohio to Las Vegas for the GRAND
opening! I could hardly contain myself as I took my 4th row seat in
the cave-like theatre. I was mumbling to my Mother about how much I
wanted too meet him after the show, so she said that we could ask
around later. The show was amazing....well what I saw of it ( I had
my eyes glued on MC for an hour and a half of pure ecstasy!) After
the show my parents went and talked to the theatre manager Frank...or
was it Fred? Oh well, anyway they asked Frank/Fred if there was any
possible way that I could meet MC. He said we would have to talk to
Mc himself because it was entirely up to him, so he told us that he
would give MC's PA, Robyn, our name and our room number and get back
to us later (we were going to see the show again the next night too)
Meanwhile while my parents were conversing with Frank/Fred I was on a
little MC hunt of my own. I was snooping about the front of the
stage looking for souvenirs when I spotted one of MC's balls...so to
speak (no, not those balls, ladies! His cannon balls!) I picked it
up and told the stage hand that he would have to fight me for it.
After a little struggle the guy managed to pry my fingers loose and
took the ball away. However, I did manage to get him to take my
program to MC to get it signed!!!!! My parents came down to where I
was standing and dragged me away...they say I was in shock because my
legs just weren't working right. I staggered back up to the room and
collapsed next to the window while thoughts of tomorrow night's show
danced in my head. The next day was so long! I went swimming then I
caught a ride on the VIP elevator with some Japanese man who spoke no
English. He thought I was supposed to be on that elevator! After
the elevator stopped on the very top floor I peeked out and saw about
5 security guards so of course I skidaddled. After about 3
hours of hunting for the ever elusive Phantom of the MGM Grand I went
to my room to get ready for that night's show. While I was getting
ready the phone rang and it was Robyn, MC's PA! She told me that she
had my program and that she would meet me in front of the theatre at
6:30 but MC was too busy and regretfully he couldn't meet me. So, I
trotted on down to the theatre and collected my program and chatted
about my favorite Brit up until show time. After the show that night
I met a photographer who had taken some pictures the night before. I
told her how much I wanted to meet him and she then replied. "You're
not going to believe this but last night after the show he came out
into the theatre about 10 minutes after the end and was signing
autographs." I of couse went nuts and started asking myself why I
didn't stay until I got thrown out!!! I just missed him!!!!!!!!! I
can't believe it! I was so close! Anyway, I did have my program
(which I didn't even put down during the flight home.) and I was
happy that I finally got to see him perform live but I have been
kicking myself in the rear end ever since that night. Anyway, I would
like to thank Robyn, Frank/Fred...I think it was Fred, and all the
stage hands that I talked to...everyone was so helpful. I would also
like to thank all the little people and the Academy....no, just
kidding! I would like to thank MC for signing my program and making
my dreams come true! Oh and, I will be back!!!!!!
