Michael's Fourth of July

Brits in the US are always slightly uncomfortable on the 4th of July. I happened to see POTO in LA 7/4/89, and it was great. You would never have guessed what had happened earlier. It turns out the cast and crew held a July 4th party. Michael was late, which drew everyone's curiosity. When they went to his dressing room to check on him they were alarmed to see smoke coming from under the door. Suddenly it opened, and out rushed Michael. He was wearing a tattered Redcoat uniform, carrying a broken musket, had teabags hanging from his hat and outfit and looked like he had personally lost the battle of Yorktown. Needless to say, this broke everybody up. The techie who told this story said MC was very funny, but when it came to doing the show, he was ALL business.
