Emma, Sinatra, and Grandpa Stories (from Midday)

Submitted by Rimsey

Driving Mr Sinatra!

This story comes straight from the horse's mouth. While promoting OEW before embarking on the tour, Michael was a guest on the Midday Show in Australia. The hostess Kerry-Anne Kennelly asked Michael if while doing EFX in Las Vegas did the likes of Frank Sinatra ever come to see the show. Michael replied that no he didn't but that he had met him in Los Angeles at a New Years Eve party he had attended with Emma, while doing Phantom. Michael mentions here that "He (Sinatra) had no idea who I was. Everybody knew your name in LA but no-one knew your face so you went around saying (placing hand over half of his face mask-like) I'm doing Phantom of the Opera... Then everybody knew you!" Michael explained that he ended up driving Frank Sinatra home - in his "modest little number" - apparently Sinatra's own driver had disappeared! When they got back to Franks place he invited Michael and Emma in for a drink. They sat and talked until 2 am - they spent most of the time talking about breathing! Michael got a giggle with that response - he went on to elaborate that as Sinatra and himself are both singers who held exceptionally long phrases and the Chairman of the Board had asked Michael "How do you work it out? How do you do it?" Michael replied that he just used to rehearse and rehearse and rehearse. Sinatra on the other hand used to swim for long times under water! Michael reckons he could figure that out at all! It seemed to help develop his lung capacity (and drinking! - MC's comment! - For any Aussies reading this, Michael then went on to comment to Jeff Harvey about his drinking habits!) Finally Sinatra basically kicked Michael and Emma out (well it was two in the morning) So they went outside and Emma and Michael got in the car, Michael started it, put it in reverse, rolled back and suddenly heard a *Thump*! And then a distraught Emma said "Daddy, Daddy - You've just hit Frank Sinatra!" In actual fact he had ran over his foot! and was seen staggering about in the garden! Suffice to say - Michael wasn't invited back!

On Being a Granddad!

As you are all aware Michael is now a Granddad! Apparently the onset of "Grandhood" has also heralded the onset of premature memory loss! Michael regaled Kerry-Anne Kennelly, that recently when he went home to see his daughter Lucy and his grand daughter Isabelle, Michael raced in looking for his "little Isabelle" after five minutes Lucy calls to her father "Daddy", "Yes darling?" "Are you going to say hello too?" "Ah Lucy! I didn't even notice you there!" I am certain that parents and grandparents alike can relate to this one! Michael also noted that he refuses to answer to the name Granddad - It's Poppa!
