Michael Talks About that Kilt Episode

Submitted by Bobbi

The interview was done by NY radio WNCN, 2 weeks before MC left POTO. The interviewer is Elliott Forrest.

(MC was telling the story of the Little Sweep, then says there was this other time [when he showed more than talent; the incident here is from Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em.)

EF: The first time you were a child?

MC: Yes, this time I was 30, I had no excuse! (Giggles.) I was doing this Scottish dancing. I was in this situation as this character and it's live before a studio audience and it's going on tape, but it's live before the audience and you only get one take.

"So I'm doing this Scottish dance and at the end the kilt falls to the ground and I'm revealed in the rehersal in these shorts. In the actual take the shorts were gone and only the director and myself knew so that we would get the right reaction from the extras playing the scene.

"And this girl that was playing my wife, Michelle Dotrice, who is married to Edward Woodward, the Equalizer, (giggle giggle), she has as bad a sense of humor as I have and nobody told her. We should have done that, 'cause there was this bare behind going out to 25,000,000 people! "

EF: Live on TV.

MC: (giggling and laughing) Well, she had an accident, (giggle giggle), she couldn't contain herself, (giggle giggle), and the show got very good ratings!

EF: I always wondered what was under those kilts!

MC: That was the idea...(he is laughing and laughing!)

EF: Well, now we know!
