Michael's Concord Cumberbund StorySubmitted by Barbara M. It was Michael's first MALW concert and there were 20,000 people present in the "shed," Concord Pavillion. Also it was FREEZING cold for June 19, 1991. As it came time for Michael to appear at the end of the first act to sing "Gethsemane" the hook on his cumberbund broke! The Stage Manager managed to find a pin and fixed it with haste. Michael hurried on stage and the spotlight hit him - he looked like a scared deer caught in the headlights. But he walked across the stage and started to sing. At the end of the song, there was dead silence. Everyone was totally awed by his performance Addendum: Throughout this tour, he would give interviews and tell this story. Now we all know how Michael embelishes his stories, so I never quite believed it. I was talking to the Stage Manager after the last show in Chicago and said it
had been a long way from Concord to Chicago. I asked, "Was the
cumberbund story true?" And Steve said: "Yes, it was, and I had to PUSH Michael
on stage."
